Meta — the new Forum app: what “Reddit” looks like from Facebook

How it works
Purpose
A discussion platform for Facebook groups that feels like Reddit, but tied to a real account.

Availability
The first post about Forum appeared in the Apple App Store, discovered by Matt Navarra (Geekout Newsletter). Meta did not announce this officially.

Core idea
“Real answers from real people” – live discussions instead of algorithmically curated content.

Interface look
* The feed consists only of group discussions, not friends’ posts or pages.

* On first launch the app asks about preferences and automatically curates posts from groups that match the user’s interests.

* Everything posted via Forum syncs with the main Facebook app, and vice versa.

Anonymity and identification
* A Facebook account is required to log in – no full anonymity like Reddit.

* Users can use pseudonyms (the option already exists in the main app), but group admins see participants’ real names.

New AI‑based features
1. Ask – gathers answers from different groups on a user’s question, sparing them from manually browsing each group.

2. Admin Assistant – helps admins with moderation by taking part of the work into its own hands.

Meta history and groups
* Earlier, when the company was called Facebook, there was a separate Groups app that was shut down in 2017.

* Forum is an attempt to bring back the group as a standalone product, but now with new AI features.

Current status
Meta said Forum is in testing stage.

> “We’re publicly testing a lot of new products to understand what people find interesting and useful for their experience in our apps,” a Meta spokesperson said.

Thus, Forum is an experimental service that aims to combine live Facebook group discussions with the convenience of Reddit while maintaining a link to a real account and providing new AI‑powered tools.
