AMD has released an updated version of its memory overclocking system, EXPO 1.2, unlocking the capabilities of Zen 6
AMD EXPO 1.2 is now available on AM5 boards
Finally an official update to the AMD EXPO memory overclocking technology has appeared – version 1.2. It is already available for motherboards on the AM5 platform and supports modules from three major Chinese manufacturers. According to estimates, the maximum performance gain will only be noticeable with new Zen 6 processors.

Module geometry Memory support
HUDIMM – DDR5 modules with a single 32‑bit subchannel. This is a compromise option designed for component shortage periods.
MRDIMM – Multiplexed Rank Dual In‑Line Memory Modules promises high bandwidth and capacity, but it’s intended for enterprise servers rather than consumer AM5 systems.
CUDIMM / CSODIMM – Partial support for Clocked Unbuffered Dual In‑Line Memory Modules and Clocked Small Outline Dual In‑Line Memory Modules. They use the CKD (Client Clock Driver) chip to stabilize memory operation at high frequencies, but EXPO 1.2 treats them as regular modules, so the CKD benefits are not fully realized. Full support for CUDIMM is not even present in AGESA 1.3.0.1 – likely preparation for future Ryzen 10000 processors on Zen 6.
ULL mode (Ultra Low Latency) A new mode that reduces memory latency by about 5–7 ns when running at DDR5‑6000.
Extended timings Support for new parameters tREFI, tRRDS and tWR, as well as the ability to set VDDP for fine tuning.
Support for Chinese brands RAMXEED Limited, Conexant, Rui Xuan (formerly Rei Zuan) and Fujitsu Synaptics is now officially supported.
How it looks in practice
* Asus already releases beta firmware with preliminary support for EXPO 1.2 across the entire 800 series lineup. Updates are available, for example, for the X870E and X870 models; they will soon appear on B850 as well.
* Other manufacturers (MSI, Gigabyte, ASRock, etc.) are also expected to add EXPO 1.2 support in the coming weeks.
