The company delayed the launch of a model featuring an OLED display, touch screen, and new M6 Pro/M6 Max chips due to shortages of RAM and SSDs. For the same reason, the Mac Studio lineup update has also been pushed back.

Bloomberg reviewer Mark Gurman reported this news. He had previously forecasted a release date at the end of 2026, but now clarifies that it will come in early 2027, even though many expected an announcement in October–November. The delay is caused by a component shortage that has affected the entire industry.

Preparation for the touch interface will be completed in macOS 27, expected in the fall. The delay is purely manufacturing‑related; software refinements are already planned.

Gurman added that the touch mode will include contextual controls and dynamically enlarging buttons in the menu bar.

Model positioning remains open

Given the numerous updates, Apple could decide to position the new OLED‑MacBook Pro as a separate premium segment with a higher price while keeping existing M5 models at their current prices. This approach would help smooth demand amid limited component supplies.
