OpenAI Boosts Codex Capabilities for Enterprise Clients

During a video broadcast on Tuesday, the company announced new features that make the AI agent Codex more suitable for work in public company investment, banking, and sales.

According to Bloomberg, the developer’s near‑term plans include expanding support for the legal sector and corporate finance, as well as integrating Codex into the core ChatGPT chatbot. In addition, specialized plugins were added for building internal workflow apps and editing professional documents.

This move is driven by intensifying competition between OpenAI and Anthropic to attract business customers ahead of potential IPOs this year. Anthropic was the first to launch plugins for financial services and legal tasks, raising concerns among investors in traditional IT manufacturers. In response, OpenAI emphasized the need to shift focus from the consumer segment to the corporate market so that by year’s end half of total revenue comes from business users.

Both companies initially achieved sustainable growth by selling cutting‑edge AI tools for software development optimization. Codex, launched last year, has already attracted more than 5 million weekly users, about one fifth of whom are non‑professional developers.
