Caocao, a subsidiary of Geely, plans to launch thousands of autonomous taxis on the market

The Caocao company, part of the Geely group, announced the start of production of the “robotaxi” Eva Cab, which will compete directly with Tesla Cybercab.

Caocao CEO Gong Xin told Reuters that the cars will feature a simplified cabin without door pockets so passengers won’t forget items during the trip.

Pricing and positioning

Caocao intends to offer more affordable prices compared with expensive private-use models. Gong Xin emphasized that the lack of a luxurious interior and powerful engines will significantly reduce costs. Specific figures have not yet been disclosed.

Why this matters

Most existing robotaxis are modified versions of mass-market cars, which makes cabin optimization and cost control difficult. Caocao solves this problem by designing everything from scratch.

Company history and prospects

Caocao was founded in 2015 with the support of Geely Holding. Forecasts predict that by 2030 it will become one of the three or four surviving robotaxi manufacturers in China. Today, Caocao is already the second-largest taxi‑ordering platform operator after Didi and is actively expanding abroad, aligning with Geely’s global strategy.

In the next 12–18 months, Xpeng, another major Chinese automaker, plans to launch several thousand of its own robotaxis. This confirms growing competition in the autonomous transport segment and heightens investor interest in innovative automotive solutions.
