Nintendo Announces Price Increase for Portable Switch Consoles

In response to pressure from investors, Nintendo confirmed that prices for its portable devices — the Switch 2 and the original Switch — will be raised in the near future.

Region Date of Change New Primary Price Mario Kart World Bundle Price
USA September 1, 2026 $499.99 (Switch 2) $549.99 (bundle)
Canada September 1, 2026 $679.99 CAD (Switch 2) —
Europe September 1, 2026 €499.99 (Switch 2) —

In Japan the increase will take effect as early as May 25:

- Switch 2 – from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980
- Switch 2 with OLED screen – ¥47,980
- Original Switch – ¥43,980
- Switch Lite – ¥29,980

A multilingual version sold through the My Nintendo Store will retain a price of ¥69,980. In addition, the cost of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription will be raised to match other regions.

Why Prices Are Rising
Nintendo explained the change as “a result of changing market conditions” and global business prospects. In an official statement, the company apologized for any inconvenience to users and other stakeholders. The decision to raise prices was forced after investors secured a price increase for the Switch 2 from Nintendo.

What This Means for Buyers
Soon the price of the Switch 2 in the US will be roughly equal to the Mario Kart World bundle at its launch (June 2025). This underscores Nintendo’s commitment to maintaining pricing stability and aligning with market realities, despite rising production costs.
