Meta — a new level of transparency for parents

Meta has begun providing parents with more detailed information about what their children are interested in on Instagram. The new feature works through child accounts: parent profiles linked to them receive notifications about topics that attract the child—whether it’s basketball, fashion, or something else.

Content control for minors

In December last year, Meta added a feature to Instagram that allows users to freely specify the topics they want to see (or not see) in their feed. For child accounts, restrictions are stricter: the recommendation algorithm must comply with general PG‑13 film rating requirements.

Consolidation of parental controls

Meta announced it is “consolidating” parental control mechanisms across all its platforms. Settings in Instagram, Meta Horizon, Facebook, and Messenger are now managed centrally through a personal Family Center dashboard. Parents can send a single invitation to monitor a teenager across all these apps at once.

Soon, new tools will appear in Family Center: for example, the ability to track the total time a minor spends on Meta services. This will allow parents to manage their children’s digital lives more effectively.
