Samsung Electronics expands robotics and artificial intelligence teams

How it is being implemented
A new cohort of employees for the "Future Robotics" group
An internal job posting was made in the finished goods division (DX) at the end of April. Before the recruitment began, employees received a briefing where the goals and directions of the group were presented.

Strengthening AI transformation (AX)
At the same time, positions are open for strategy specialists, project managers, and developers within the AX division. As part of the restructuring at the end of last year, Samsung formed AI strategy teams and created separate AX groups in each business unit.

Context and motivation
The "Future Robotics" group was created after the company became the largest shareholder of Rainbow Robotics (purchasing a large block of shares at the end of 2024). This allows Samsung to use Rainbow Robotics’ technological solutions for developing new robots.

Development strategy
It is planned to first launch industrial robots, then move into home and retail segments. To accelerate processes, the company intends to:
• Shift production of key components to its own facilities (which will allow designing parts optimized for robots).
• Expand internal competencies.
• Collaborate with competitive South Korean firms.
• If necessary, invest in or acquire specialized enterprises.

Results from last year
According to CFO and vice‑president Park Sunghol, under the leadership of working group head Oh Jeongho, the company achieved significant technological progress and laid the foundation for catching up with industry leaders.

Leadership support
In a teleconference on first‑quarter results, Park Sunghol emphasized that Samsung is actively developing AI transformation across the organization, including training managers in AI skills.

Thus, Samsung Electronics simultaneously strengthens its robotics and artificial intelligence teams and formulates a strategy that will allow the company to enter new market segments, relying on its own developments and partnership initiatives.
