SK Hynix plans to double its memory production over the next five years
SK Hynix announces ambitious memory growth plans
* Doubling production capacity
At the Computex 2026 exhibition in Taiwan, SK Group chairman Chey Tae‑won stated that the company intends to double its memory chip output over the next five years.
* Memory shortage issue
In March of this year he noted that the global memory deficit could persist until 2030. This underscores the need for SK Hynix to broaden its partner network, especially in Taiwan, and not rely solely on TSMC.
* HBM supplier for Nvidia
Chey Tae‑won expressed confidence that SK Hynix will remain the largest HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) supplier for Nvidia’s Vera Rubin accelerators. Although Samsung Electronics claims that status, SK Hynix plans to compete aggressively.
* Financial success
Last week SK Hynix’s market capitalization surpassed $1 trillion for the first time, indicating investor confidence in its AI‑era growth strategy.
* HBM market share
According to Counterpoint Research, in Q1 of this year SK Hynix held 58 % of the global HBM market, while Samsung and Micron each captured 21 %.
