Quantic Dream is ceasing work on Spellcasters Chronicles
The French developer, known for projects such as Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human, announced the shutdown of servers for its quasi-free-to-play team-based tactical action game Spellcasters Chronicles.

What happened – Spellcasters Chronicles never reached version 1.0 and will be completely removed from Steam.
- All users who have already paid for the game will receive a full refund.
- The project team stated that the goal was to create a “bold and original” multiplayer game, but in the challenging market conditions it could not gather enough audience.
Consequences for the studio – After the game's cancellation Quantic Dream plans an internal reorganization. Typically this is accompanied by staff reductions, though the exact number of layoffs remains unknown.
- Development of Star Wars Eclipse (non-linear adventure action announced in 2021) continues unchanged.
Owner role – The Chinese company NetEase, owner of Quantic Dream, is not rushing to invest in the project. In case Spellcasters Chronicles fails it may reconsider further investments in the studio.
Thus, “Spellcasters Chronicles” is shutting down less than four months after its early access launch, and Quantic Dream continues work on other major projects.
