Tesla recalls the Cybertruck Long‑Range due to brake disc issues

The company announced a recall of all 173 rear‑drive Cybertruck Long‑Range pickups sold at $70,000 and equipped with 18‑inch steel discs. The reason is the risk of cracks in the bolt holes of the brake discs that could cause the bolt to detach from the wheel hub.

What Tesla is doing

* Free replacement of front and rear brake discs;

* Replacement of all hubs and wheel nuts as well.

Status of the problem

Tesla has logged three warranty cases potentially related to this defect. At present, the company has not received any reports of collisions, fatalities or injuries associated with this issue.

Recall context

* This is the 11th recall for the Cybertruck after previous issues: accelerator pedal, finish, inverter, rear‑view camera and even font size.

* The rear‑drive model was released in April last year, but production was halted a few months later.

* In February of this year Tesla introduced a more affordable two‑motor all‑wheel‑drive Cybertruck priced at $60,000; the recall does not apply to it.

Technical explanation

“On affected vehicles, stronger road irregularities and turns create stress on the bolt hole in the wheel disc, leading to crack formation. If these cracks widen with further use, the bolt may separate from the hub,” says Tesla.

Thus, owners of the Cybertruck Long‑Range can expect a free replacement of key brake system components at no additional cost.
